14. A warning to the people/The good and the evil/This is war.

For those of you who don't know, there's a vampire on the Barge named Jerry. He hasn't been here long and he's not a very nice guy. Mountain ash can trap him someplace, or keep him out of a place. It acts like a supernatural barrier. I've asked the Admiral for more. I have some already, but not enough for everyone.

[His jaw tightens a little. His face is just a slight shade paler than usual, but if you haven't really paid attention to that sort of thing -- you're not likely to notice.]

Someone with a shitload of super powers should probably go let him out of the laundry room. But be careful. He's probably really pissed off about now.

[He looks like he wants to say something else, but he doesn't. He just disconnects the feed.]

Obviously you guys can't handle mountain ash. So you're going to need to be extra careful with this douchewad. We don't know what kind of damage a vampire could do to one of you.

Would it be considered too gauche of me to ask precisely why we need to let him out at all?

[And it's Derek. Whom he hasn't seen or spoken with since his failed attempt with Crichton to destroy the Aurora chair. Awkward.]

I'm all for keeping him trapped but I kinda doubt many other people are gonna agree.

[Yeah, about that. Unfortunately he's as good as sworn himself to an alliance with the entire so-called "pack" over this whole Jerry business, so...]

Probably not. Optimism, self-righteousness or stupidity. Either way.

[An alliance with wolves is much better than an alliance with a vampire. Really. At least if that vampire happens to be Jerry.]

I think it's mostly the first. [He definitely doesn't have a lot of hope for Jerry at this point. But he's not exactly an optimist.]

And that's because you are also an optimist, I feel. [He smiles narrowly, but doesn't exactly say it like a compliment. But nearly everyone is more of an optimist compared to Blight.]

What did he do this time, anyway?

[He arches an eyebrow, then considers what he said. He supposes Derek's not entirely wrong there. Whatever. He's blaming Scott for this.]

Got hungry again.

[His expression and body language instantly changes. He's all business, and he's not happy.]

...Who? Who did he go after, this time?

[He suddenly wishes he'd come up with a better way to make this announcement to the Barge because he doesn't love admitting that Jerry's latest victim was him.]

Me.

Oh. Aha. [He relaxes somewhat - at least it wasn't poor Lydia, again. Or Allison. He sits a little further back in his chair, a more neutral frown in place, still displeased in general.]

And I am guessing that you've already been to the infirmary, then, or at this very moment one of your Beacon Hills brethren is on their way to drag you.

The latter. Lydia's making me.

[He purses his lips and shrugs a shoulder. He's fine and doesn't really need a trip to the infirmary, but he'll go because she's Lydia and he doesn't really know how to tell her no.]

[That gets a wry smirk out of him, at least for a moment or so.]

Well, good for her, then. Your little group is so determined at looking out for each other, you're all starting to look rather lousy at looking out for yourselves.

[Well, Derek's not wrong there. They're all lousy at looking out for themselves. They have been since the beginning. Even he can't begin to deny it and Stiles can be pretty good at denial.]

Yeah, I know.

Not exactly my place to say. But you should work on it.

Yeah, well. The truth is the truth. Doesn't really matter who's saying it, you know? [It is what it is.] But duly noted.

Good. As has been rather forcibly pointed out to me around here, it's never too late to learn something.

[And hopefully ending that on a note that won't raise any suspicions, he switches over to private.]

I don't know if Miss Argent has told any of you yet. But just so you know, if it comes down to it between the rest of you and the vampire...I'm backing your play.

[The switch surprises him, and so do the words. He knows that Lydia likes Derek, considers him a friend, but he had no idea that Derek and Allison had even met, much less that they've been conspiring against Jerry together. Interesting.]

Oh. Thank you, that's...[Kind of nice but weird and surprising?] Appreciated.

[He'd probably be more surprised to hear that Derek directly reached out to Allison. But then, she is a formidable young lady. Even from a distance she makes an impression.]

I've no intention of hunting him down. [Yet. Perhaps.] You'll still have to try and handle things on your own, for the most part. But if you find yourself backed into a corner, consider me on the list of those you can call upon for help.

I've less experience with friendship - more so with alliances. I protect my own. Look out for my interests. Aggressively, if I have to. I'm sure you understand.

[He would be, but Allison is definitely someone no one should want for an enemy. Unless their brain is severely deprived of oxygen or they're a masochist, anyway.]

Fair enough. [He's torn between wanting to hunt Jerry down and put a stake through his heart and knowing that he can't because he shouldn't want that. But at Derek's words about protecting his own, he nods, grim expression on his face. He understands. Deeply.]

Yeah. Yeah, I get that.

Then it sounds as if we're in the clear here. All on the same page.

He can't bite me. If that somehow wasn't obvious. He'd be blatantly suicidal to try, and I believe now that he's seen me without my skin on he knows that now.

[Stiles nods his agreement on that one.]

I'm pretty sure he's not. Suicidal, I mean. Borderline homicidal is another story.

So he's not an Anne Rice vampire then, good to know. [So very sardonic.] Just be careful; I'll do the same. And let me know if anyone else figures out what his specific weaknesses are. Since fictional races of vampires are apparently like snowflakes.

Or even worse -- one of the ones from Twilight. [He can't help but smirk a little.] Yeah, will do. Soon as I know anything else, I'll catch you up to speed.

And on the off-chance I hear anything first, I'll do likewise. [Well he'll probably tell Allison or Lydia, and presume they'll pass the information along. That's like the same thing, right?]

Sounds good. [He nods at him in acknowledgment. And yes, telling Allison or Lydia is just as good as telling him personally, really.]
